The Leadership Academy

Leading Where It is Hard

Comprehensive leadership development built specifically for child welfare supervisors and managers

Our Framework: Three Supervision Styles

Educational Supervision

Teaching, training, and developing your team’s knowledge and skills, and helping staff understand the why behind policies and practices.

Administrative Supervision

Managing operations, ensuring compliance, and maintaining accountability. The structure that keeps everything running.

Supportive Supervision

Coaching through challenges, managing stress, and creating psychological safety. The human side of leading in hard places.

Leading Where It’s Hard™

Two ways to begin

A 12-week journey for the supervisors who hold your agency together — with the option to keep them held long after the work begins.

A focused 12-week experience

The complete Leading Where It’s Hard™ curriculum, delivered as a private cohort for your supervisors. A contained, high-touch engagement that names the real work of leadership in foster care and gives your team the language, tools, and practice space to do it well.

Self-paced video lessons supervisors complete on their own time, then bring into live discussion.

Twelve weeks of guided cohort sessions with AKC, where the curriculum meets the realities of your supervisors’ actual caseloads.

Worksheets designed to be used again and again — not one-time exercises, but daily instruments for the work.

A dedicated digital home for your supervisors’ discussions, recordings, and resources — visible only to your team and AKC.

Every participant signs a confidentiality agreement at enrollment. The cohort is a closed room, and that is what makes the honest work possible.

Cohort Sizes

Available as a small cohort (up to five supervisors) or a standard cohort (six to ten supervisors).

Four sessions a year on what’s actually surfacing in the field.

An open call where any supervisor can bring a real situation. No agenda required — just the work as it is.

Year-round access to peer connections, archived trainings, and conversations across agencies doing similar work.

As AKC develops new instruments and refines existing ones, community members receive them first — an evolving reference that grows alongside your team.

Twelve months of sustained connection between AKC and your supervisors, beginning the moment the cohort closes.

Cohort Sizes

Available as a small cohort (up to five supervisors) or a standard cohort (six to ten supervisors).

Begin a conversation

Not sure which fits? That’s the first call.

Every engagement begins with a discovery conversation. We listen, we look at what’s actually happening in your supervision tier, and together we name the right next step.
